Stress and Strain diagrams
- To find the properties of some materials, a tension test is performed.
- This is a test where a load is applied to a sample of the material and the extension is measured.
- From the information produced by the test, we are able to draw a stress and strain diagram.
- As shown, we can obtain many information from a stress and strain curve:
- Young's modulus
- Elastic limit
- Yield Stress
- Ultimate stress
- Breaking stress
- Resilience
- Ductility
- Toughness
- Elongation
- Brittleness
- Most of these will be explained in the next few points:
