Detecting Radiation

There are many different ways of detecting radiation, radiation can be detected through the use of electronically or physically operated devices although ALL devices rely on the principle that radiation is ionising. Some devices can differentiate between radiation types some measure both amounts.

Radiation Measurement

Radiation can be measured in many different ways, units have been devised in order to quantify radiation, the ones studied in the HSC course are: Becquerel (Bq) which are equal to one nuclear disintegration per second. Because radiation have different effects in the body, the sievert (Sv) is used to determine the radiation received in biological tissues.
